Artist Statement
Based in the Scottish Highlands, I am a visual artist primarily working within the theme of the domestic environment.
Creating two and three-dimensional pieces, Modernisation and change inspire me to create artworks that present a narrative for our domestic past and our relationship with what we call home.
Focusing mainly upon furniture and ornament I explore the use of reproduction and preservation through the study of domestic objects and homespun crafts. I am particularly interested in their impact upon today’s interiors.
Continually referencing the make up of the dwelling and the effects of human intervention I continue exploring the traditional alongside the alternative kitsch aesthetic.
Overall I create accessible and familiar pieces that have a distinct homely feel working with such objects as c.1950’s cocktail sticks, the now iconic imagery of the three flying ducks, the swallow and the anchor.
